As Stella Adler aptly said, “The theatre was created to tell people the truth about life and the social situation.”
Established in 2008 as part of Bangalore Little Theatre (BLT), the Academy of Theatre Arts is dedicated to building a deeper societal appreciation of theatre and the performing arts. Guided by its mission, the Academy has consistently developed and implemented socially relevant programs that embody the unique BLT Approach.
A key focus of the Academy is its work with schools and children. It views Education Enrichment as a vital pathway toward achieving the broader societal goal of meaningful education. The Academy emphasizes building an understanding of systemic realities in society while cultivating an appreciation for the arts.

The History of Ideas
The History of Ideas programme brings to life the stories behind historic figures, events, and discoveries that have shaped society. By leveraging theatre—particularly biographical plays—it aims to engage the public in an educational journey, making history accessible and meaningful to a wider audience.
The Academy has published 10 volumes of plays. These publications include 50 plays. The objective of the programme is to achieve wide public reach with the productions, and to use the plays as a vehicle for greater public awareness of the shaping of societies.
Bangalore Little Theatre (BLT) has a well-established Children’s Theatre programme featuring an annual flagship production specially created for young audiences. Each play in this series is based on original scripts, either developed in-house or adapted by BLT. Over the years, the series has built a strong reputation and brand identity.
Every year, around 20 to 25 performances are staged across schools and public venues. Proceeds from the shows support the disadvantaged child, with a focus on those from low-income backgrounds.
The play typically opens performance on Children’s Day (November 14) and runs for about two months. Over 4,000 people watch the play across Bengaluru every year. This included students from about 20 schools.

The Publication Series
The Academy has published 10 volumes containing 50 plays from Bangalore Little Theatre. The Publication Series is designed to achieve broad public reach, using theatre as a powerful tool to enhance awareness and understanding of the forces that shape societies.
Founded in 1960, Bangalore Little Theatre Foundation (BLT) is one of the city’s oldest and most respected English theatre society, renowned for its role as a community theatre group. Over the decades, BLT has been instrumental in promoting and supporting theatre arts in Bengaluru, establishing a legacy of excellence and outreach.
With a rich history of over 200 productions, BLT has pioneered theatre education, treated play development as a serious artistic pursuit, and engaged the community through a wide variety of initiatives. Its extensive outreach activities in schools and colleges have made BLT a cornerstone of theatre in the city.
As part of its long-term commitment to theatre education, BLT works closely with teachers and students, using theatre methods as a primary platform for learning and growth. Theatre training activities in Bangalore were initiated by BLT in the 1970s, laying the foundation for its continued efforts to integrate theatre into education.

What Students Say
All Education Enrichment workshops conducted at schools and colleges have received overwhelmingly positive feedback from both students and teachers. The Shaping Lives workshops have significantly impacted students, bringing about behavioral changes, enhancing their understanding of emotions, and equipping them to manage daily life stresses effectively. This encouragement drives us to expand our reach further, with a particular focus on engaging students from less privileged communities to ensure they too can benefit from these transformative opportunities.
Over the years we have become deeply involved in training, outreach programmes and a range of developmental activities
