About Us

Founded in 1960, Bangalore Little Theatre Foundation (BLT) is one of the city’s oldest and most respected English theatre society, renowned for its role as a community theatre group. Over the decades, BLT has been instrumental in promoting and supporting theatre arts in Bengaluru, establishing a legacy of excellence and outreach.

With a rich history of over 200 productions, BLT has pioneered theatre education, treated play development as a serious artistic pursuit, and engaged the community through a wide variety of initiatives. Its extensive outreach activities in schools and colleges have made BLT a cornerstone of theatre in the city.

As part of its long-term commitment to theatre education, BLT works closely with teachers and students, using theatre methods as a primary platform for learning and growth. Theatre training activities in Bangalore were initiated by BLT in the 1970s, laying the foundation for its continued efforts to integrate theatre into education.

Academy of Theatre Arts

In 2009 an Academy of Theatre Arts was created within Bangalore Little Theatre to pursue social development programmes. One of the thrusts of the Academy is to work in schools and with children. The Academy views Education Enrichment as a critical contributor to the larger societal goal of purposeful education, with a stress on appreciation of systemic realities in society.

Creative expression is seen as central to education. The Academy’s work includes innovations in both content and pedagogy that integrate –
•    Curriculum development (through research)
•    Faculty development (teacher training)
•    Materials development (texts, teaching aids, exercises, etc.)

Within the broader commitment to children, the Academy has a more specialized interest in reaching the disadvantaged child and organizations serving underprivileged communities.

Our Team Members

As part of our long-term programme in Theatre Education, we are committed to working with teachers and students using methods as the principal platform.
